It shall be the duty of the Chief to perform the following duties:
Take charge in all firematic matters in this company, take command and assume full responsibility of all fires and
emergencies, to certify the accuracy of fire reports. Assume full responsibility for the readiness of all
firefighting equipment and apparatus, shall take all the necessary steps to insure the
complete protection of the West Nyack Fire District.
Assistant Chiefs
It shall be the duty of the Assistant Chiefs to perform the following duties:
To aid and assist the chief in the discharge of his duties and in the temporary absence
of the chief shall assume the discharge of the chief’s duties.

Lieutenants
It shall be the duty of the Lieutenants to perform the following duties:
Under the direction of the chief to take charge of equipment and personnel at fires and drills, to account
for equipment and personnel at fires and drills, to account for equipment and personnel upon returning
to the firehouse from a fire or drill and be responsible for having the equipment in readiness for use.

Engineer
It shall be the duty of the Engineer to perform the following duties:
Assume responsibility for maintenance and service of all apparatus and assure their readiness at all times.
The engineer shall coordinate all maintenance and service work that has to be performed on the apparatus with the commissioner’s engineer, other than the normal preventive maintenance schedule. The engineer will be responsible to the chief for all his duties.

Safety Officer 24-10
It shall be the duty of the Safety Officer to perform the following duties:
To observe emergency operations and monitor overall safety, fire scene safety infractions will be reported to
the scene commander, the safety officer will have no other fire scene duties but to circulate at the emergency scene and
monitor that proper safety procedures are being followed.
